What would you do if...
You logged on to your account and a message appeared. The message reads "you're account is banned for botting, this action is permanent. You're shocked in disbelief. You go to your email and email NCsoft support, saying "hey guys, my account was wrongfully banned for botting (and let's say for this situation, you actually didn't bot) could we please discuss this situation and come to a logical outcome.
You go to bed. The next morning you check your email and see that you got a response from Ncsoft. You're excited at first, thinking yes I know I wasn't botting and Ncsoft is an intelligent company, so hopefully they will understand I wasn't breaking the rules. The email (which is a template) reads something along the lines of this: "We have proof of you botting, We know you were botting, anything you say can not change the fact that we know that you were botting. We cannot send you proof of how we know you bot, because that would jeopardize our botter finder mechanism." You email them back saying " Hey I'm a little confused on how you actually know I was botting. How do I know that you didn't make a mistake. You ban countless accounts everyday, isn't it possible that you might make a mistake? I guarantee that I have never botted in Guild Wars, and I haven't been suspended once. Please reconsider your decision." They reply back saying "We know you were botting, Any more emails will be discarded. We consider this matter closed" This situation could happen to anyone. Everyone is at risk. They have banned probably over 150,000+ account, the odds of having all of them 100% accurate and Ncsoft not making a single mistake are extremely slim. So what would you do if this happened to you? |

This sounds rather specific and personal o.o.
I would probably go play StarCraft 2 and wait for GW2. Do you still get your HoM if you're banned? |

1.
Buy a second account, but that costs a lot of money. Hence: 2. Stop playing Guild Wars. |

1. Make a disguised QQ thread on here.
2. Play on my second account. (Probably wouldn't bother with #1 though. :3 )

I would keep replying to anet support until they accuse me of harassment and make my online handle a disallowed word.
Try to name a character/pet Spacko. Why was this disallowed before "Vagina" or "Dyke"? I dunno, ask Anet support (if a human actually responds that is). Alternatively you could get banned mid MAT because Anet doesn't seem to like Harvey Keitel and just take it and the auto guild loss because you have no other options. As personal as your message sounds I would,
1) Give up on Guild Wars, as shocked as you might be, there is other stuff to do in this world besides killing charr. 2) Go play another game in the mean time and start over in Guild Wars 2 when its released. Recommendations: Civilization IV Crysis 2 Black Ops (Multiplayer of course) |

@the OP well I would be shocked not only because I don't bot but because you see botters in JQ for years and they never get banned. Do you have any idea what they think you did? |

The perma ban on Spacko's account really cannot be contested. But the fact that they disallowed his handle before they disallowed Vagina or Dyke, does call their priorities into question.
As for the Harvey Keitel, guess which name got banned (as per Guru rules, this was a team name gimmick designed specifically because we knew we were going to be on obs mode, pulled from obs mode, and none of these character names exist anymore [at least to us]). |

http://austin.bbb.org/consumers/
http://austin.bbb.org/Consumer-Complaints/ My account at one time was also banned ...unfairly imo... so as NCsoft has USA corporate offices in Austin, Texas... I contacted the Better Business Bureau there ..It is very easy to file your complaint online... and it pressures NCSOFT to respond... if they don't respond they get a lower rating of trustworthiness.... While the BBB can't force ANet to do anything..it does attempt to gather info and solve problems consumers may have ... They helped me....and while NCSOFT refused to reinstate my acct..they did issue a refund... I have 3 accts... soo... no biggy ...it wasn't my main. Depends really if by signing up to play guild wars I had agreed that they can stop me playing and don't have to give a reason then ultimately nothing.
If they are not covered by such a clause then I would probably lose my temper and start sounding off to anywhere I could online and by letter and phone. Don't like being accused of something I didn't do. Anywhere I could report them for bad business practises I would. But this is because I am very stubborn and quite hot tempered when it comes to matters of personal honour. It would probably achieve nothing but it might be good for me to blow off steam a bit. |

Bold emphasis mine. They don't really need a reason, since the decision lies completely with them, but there is no clause stating they don't need to give evidence. |

Biggest crap line I have heard in a long time.... Just because a business states a policy does NOT necessarily mean it is legal. Perhaps you also think a business can enforce a policy of no service to blacks... or hispanics...etc etc A store/business policy is NOT LAW. "in our sole discretion" yea right..... I got the numbers of some good lawyers.... Last edited by Perpetua Gale; May 23, 2011 at 01:02 AM // 01:02.. |

It's completely legal, Perpetua - because you do not own the account. It's also pretty standard for games like this.

So yes, it is legal if you agree to the terms and there is proof that you agreed. And you obviously clicked "Agree" as you can't play without doing so. All that we legally own is what came in the box. ANET owns our actual accounts, they just give us access to them. |
